my reflection on math centers
My opinion about learning centers and learning stations is very strong; they are very beneficial to all students. I feel that learning centers and learning stations help students to work independently or with a partner. They are able to expand their knowledge by sharing their ideas with one another, or having one-on-one time to grasp on the information. While at the learning center/station they can explore the material. Hands-on is implemented in these activities. A student that can touch and see the materials can connect with the lesson on a deeper level. This will expand their critical thinking skills. Better yet, help them to understand what is around them, like the real world. Students that make real life connections are able to use their knowledge to use in these activities.
As a future educator, I will apply all different types of stations (math, reading, etc.) into my classroom. It will depend on what lesson is given during that time period, and that is what I’ll base my stations on, as well as the common core standards. I will divide my students into assigned groups. I will have to get to know my students to know how to group them up, based on how and whom they learn best. I will have them go to a station a day for about thirty minutes. I will set it to where stations will be four days a week, leaving Friday to be a fun day. Within each group there will be hands-on materials/manipulatives that students will be able to explore. There will be step-by-step instructions and expectations about the center/station. My goal is for students to build their knowledge, social skills, and confidence in their education.
